The World Islamic Economic Forum began from humble origins as the OIC Business Forum, held on October 15, 2003, coinciding with the 10th Summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Putrajaya, Malaysia. It was an opportunity that brought together government leaders, industry leaders, academics, regional experts, professionals, and company managers to discuss business partnership opportunities in the Islamic world.

  Then in 2004, the second OIC Business Forum in Kuala Lumpur was an extremely significant occasion. It shaped the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) and the subsequent decade of the first WIEF Forum in Kuala Lumpur the following year.

The World Forum of the World Economic Forum seeks to promote global trade and economic prosperity while advocating for Islamic ethics of peace, justice, and equality. This was an important shift that opened the Forum to include Islamic communities outside OIC member states and other non-Muslim communities around the world.

The Forum brings together government leaders, industry leaders, businessmen, corporate executives, and academics to discuss current issues affecting and shaping the future of trade. And also to explore partnership opportunities between companies and Islamic and non-Islamic communities.

Its program consists of panel discussions and masterclasses that illustrate intellectual leadership on current economic issues. The WIEF platform also provides opportunities for impactful networking through its various activities.
