Sustainability leaders in the region continue to drive transformation to align the strategies of major corporations with global climate goals and national visions. The third edition of Forbes Middle East's list, "Sustainability Leaders 2025," highlights these leaders who are contributing to advancing the sustainability agenda and creating impact across various key sectors.

This year's list includes 126 leaders, comprising CEOs, board chairs, and senior sustainability officers, representing 15 sectors including: banking, energy and utilities, food and agriculture, investment and holding companies, renewable energy, and waste management and recycling.

To compile the list, Forbes reviewed questionnaires, sustainability reports, as well as environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reports. Each sector was evaluated separately, and we identified different metrics for initiatives tailored to the varying standards of each sector, according to their importance within that category. While the UAE leads the list with 67 leaders, followed by Saudi Arabia with 23 leaders, then Egypt with 12 leaders.

In 2024, major companies in the region achieved significant progress, with Masdar recording a 62% growth in the total capacity of its project portfolio, reaching 51 gigawatts, while Emirates Global Aluminium completed 50% of the construction work for the largest aluminum recycling plant in the country. Similarly, Vodafone Egypt managed to operate all its operations with 100% of its electricity consumption matched to renewable energy sources. In the same context, Infinity Power continues its progress towards achieving its goal of generating 10 gigawatts of renewable energy, through new wind and solar projects across Africa.
