The National Insurance Company S.A.K. was established on June 12, 1962, by an Emiri decree, with a capital of 1,000,000 K.D. (one million Kuwaiti dinars), contributed by a select group of state figures, including prominent merchants and economists who possessed a forward-looking vision and expertise in building one of the most important insurance companies in Kuwait, the Arabian Gulf, and the Arab world.

The inception of The National Insurance Company came as a response to the economic boom Kuwait experienced after the discovery of oil, subsequently propelling it towards the global oil market. This led to balance, created investment opportunities, and opened the door for massive projects to establish infrastructure, resulting in a dynamic movement in trade, labor flow, investment, import, and export, thereby contributing to laying a solid foundation for the Kuwaiti national economy.
