Sharjah is the emirate of culture and one of the major cities in the United Arab Emirates experiencing steady population growth, making the establishment of buildings with an authentic Islamic character that highlight the Islamic identity of the emirate an urgent necessity. From this perspective, the Public Works Department was established under Emiri Decree No. (9) of 2000, issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the Union and Ruler of Sharjah, on April 8, 2000. It undertakes all tasks related to the civil construction of the emirate according to the highest quality standards to keep pace with social and economic development in line with the developmental plans approved by the Ruler or the Executive Council.
