The Sharjah Archaeology Authority was established in 1986 under the name "Department of Archaeology and Heritage," operating under the umbrella of the Department of Culture and Information. It is responsible for overseeing all archaeological and heritage sites spread across the Emirate of Sharjah, providing them with necessary protection, and participating in and supervising the work of foreign excavation missions operating in Sharjah.
