Exhibition Organizers / Event Managers
The roles of exhibition organizers / event managers vary, but the work involves identifying potential business, research, writing, planning, and managing all aspects of exhibitions on behalf of the client or the private institution. They work in public events, trade and industrial exhibitions, product launches, corporate events, and special occasions such as weddings. In addition to planning an event/exhibition in advance, they are usually present during the event to handle any issues as they arise.
Work Activities
• Planning and organizing exhibition halls and activity programs such as workshops, seminars, and demonstrations
• Researching suitable venues and ensuring all necessary equipment is available
• Selling booth/exhibition space to potential exhibitors
• Designing everything from online registration forms to floral arrangements
• Arranging insurance coverage and ensuring compliance with legal, health, and safety requirements
• Coordinating catering and equipment rental
• Organizing parking, security, first aid, and catering
• Promoting the event and organizing the production of tickets, posters, catalogs, and sales brochures
• Supervising the dismantling and removal of booths.
Work Conditions for Exhibition and Event Organizers
• Travel: During the workday and overnight absences from home are occasional.
• Working Hours: Can include overtime during evenings and weekends.
Career Development
Entry into the business and advancement within it is competitive. Progression typically occurs by taking on increased responsibility for events within the same organization, or by moving to larger organizations.
Salaries
Salaries will vary depending on the employer. In a sector largely based on sales, bonuses constitute a significant part of an event and exhibition organizer's salary.
